Give and Take is a nonprofit barter market that is entirely free. Posing an alternative to consumerist culture, the initiative also aims to benefit the local community.
This is an opportunity to get rid of unwanted belongings and rummage for your heart’s desire. The aim is to break free from consumerist bonds, offering the chance for all those involved to meet new people over a drink at Shpagat, with the added bonus of making a sizable donation to those in need.
As part of this initiative, a monthly market will be held in which people are invited to bring items they no longer need (clothing, household appliances, furniture, books and more) in exchange for anything they might find among the donated items. No money is involved in this exchange -- it is absolutely free. All participants may bring whatever unwanted items they have and take from whatever they find. At the close of the event all remaining items will be donated to Adar, an organization devoted to homeless people in Israel.
This initiative represents a certain breaking free from the consumerist cycle, achieved with the help of individual volunteers and the community at large. Indeed, this is a win-win situation for everybody involved: Getting rid of unwanted stuff that has been collecting dust, in exchange for newfound treasures, all without spending a dime.
Collaborating with Shpagat was only natural. Those familiar with the bar’s activities are surely aware of its social-minded agenda. Over the course of its admittedly short history the bar has adopted a pleasant, refreshing approach in its promotion of matters of communal and social import. Shpagat is delighted and eager to host the event and has decided that all profits from the sale of alcoholic drinks will go toward the market’s donation to the needy.
The production of this event is entirely volunteer-based. As noted, this is a moneyless market -- a nonprofit initiative for all parties involved. It aims to propose alternative consumption patterns while benefitting the community.
